After being invited to apply, the Rollins Museum of Art’s executive director Leslie Anderson has joined the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD). Acceptance into the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) is a significant professional distinction awarded to individual museum directors, not museums themselves. Membership recognizes directors who demonstrate the highest standards of leadership, governance, ethics, collections stewardship, and public service.

Eligible directors are professionally qualified through a combination of art historical training, museum experience, demonstrated leadership, and adherence to AAMD’s Code of Ethics, reflecting both their professional standing and the excellence of the institutions they lead. As museum directors, members hold ultimate responsibility for the stewardship of works of art owned by or entrusted to their museums, including their acquisition, exhibition, preservation, study, and interpretation.

For RMA, this distinction affirms the museum’s place among the nation’s leading art museums and enhances the reputation of the College among peer institutions, foundations, collectors, and major donors. It strengthens opportunities for strategic partnerships, significant loans, philanthropic investment, and increased national visibility.

As the only AAMD member currently leading an art museum in Central Florida, Anderson strengthens RMA’s position as the region’s leading academic art museum and further elevates Rollins’ profile within the national museum community.

Founded in 1916 and maintaining a limited membership, the AAMD advances the profession by cultivating leadership capabilities of directors, advocating for the field, and fostering excellence in art museums.
